Teriflunomide = Aubagio

Aubagio (Teriflunomide) is a pill taken once daily.

Aubagio works in MS by reducing the number of immune cells.

Side effects: hair thinning, liver effects and blood counts effects requiring blood tests regularly and increased risk of infections.

Aubagio is X pregnancy category therefore not recommended in women during the child bearing years. It is also not recommended in males that are considering impregnating a woman.

Aubagio can be cleared out of your system by taking Charcoal or Cholestyramine for 11 days. Aubagio stays in your system for about 8 months after stopping it. Cholestyramine is a hard medication to take due to its taste. It comes in a packet and you suppose to take 8 gram three times daily for 11 days to get rid of Aubagio out of your system. You may mix the powder with juices, water or make shakes to improve its taste. You need to wash and gurgle your mouth after each sip of cholestyramine since it may damage your teeth.

A blood test for the level of Aubagio is being done at a special lab after the 11 days of taking Cholestyramine or Charcoal. The level of Leflunomide (a parent drug of Aubagio) is being tested.
