These molecules provide essential fatty acids that are required for growth and your overall metabolism.

Fats are required for absorption of fat soluble vitamins = Vitamins A, D, E, & K (=ADEK).

1 gram of fat provide 9 calories that is you get the most energy from fat.

Saturated fats = meat, dairy products and eggs = these fats increase your total cholesterol  and Low Density Lipoprotein (=LDL). LDL is the type of fat that clogs your coronary arteries (the arteries in your heart);

Unsaturated fats: Mainly Plants food; Unsaturated fats divide in two groups:

  • Monounsaturated fats – found in olives, olive oil, nuts, peanut oil, canola oil and avocados.

  • Polyunsaturated fats –  found in sesame, corn, cottonseed and soybean oils.

  • Omega 3 & Omega 6 are

    Polyunsaturated fats =  essential fatty acids that is they are only obtained from food.

  • There is data to suggest that fish oil supplementation may increase the risk for prostate cancer.
