Cognitive Issues

 

Cognitive issues are common in MS.

The different cognitive issues in MS:

  • Word finding difficulty
  • Short term memory loss
  • Decreased concentration
  • Decreased ability to multi-task
  • Decreased information processing ability

Evaluation and treatment of your cognitive issues:

      • Evaluation of your cognition by your team
      • Evaluation by a neuropsychologist if necessary
      • Evaluation of your medications
      • Assessment of your sleep
      • Assessment of energy level / fatigue
      • Evaluation of alcohol intake
      • Evaluation for other diseases like thyroid issues or diabetes that may affect your cognitive function
      • controlling your environment noise to improve your concentration
      • Limiting & controlling environmental stressors as much as possible
      • Evaluation of your stress level and how it interfere with your ability to process information and analyzing it
      • Addressing your stress may improve your cognition
      • Treating your fatigue
      • Doing sleep hygiene
      • Evaluating your emotional status / depression and managing it
      • Seeing a psychiatrist is sometimes needed
      • Remediation plan by a neuropsychologist
